Stratford Festival News Item, April 18, 2016

It is with great sadness and profound shock that we have learned of the sudden passing last night of Todd Charlton, a dear friend and constant support to the Festival, and a huge talent.

Todd joined the Festival in 1998. Over 19 seasons, he was the sound designer for more than 50 of our productions and also composed the music for our 2013 production of Measure for Measure. This year, he was working on All My Sons and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Todd made his home in Stratford with his wife, Melissa, and their children, Harper, Jack and Devlin. He was deeply committed to this city, not only as the focal point of his career but also as the community of which he and Melissa have long been such a valued part.

Contributing work of extraordinary beauty to our productions, he was also enormously dedicated, always tackling in the most positive and constructive manner the mountains of challenges that inevitably rise before us as deadlines approach. His loss is a shattering blow, especially to those working most closely with him at this intense time of year. It will be in heartfelt tribute to him that his colleagues will now complete the exceptional work he started. His spirit is with them, and with us all.

In recognition of that spirit, we are dedicating this season’s production of All My Sons to Todd’s memory.

Our hearts go out to his family, and to our fellow members of his Festival family.

We are here with any support you need.

Antoni and Anita.
