PAL Stratford in the News

As published in Stratford Beacon Herald, September 27, 2013.

Stage and screen star Lee Meriwether, Catwoman in the original “Batman” series, is the special guest when PAL Stratford presents its eighth annual Expect the Extraordinary show on Oct. 7.

Meriwether, a former Miss America, will make the trip from L.A. where she is currently appearing in the Theatre West production of “A Short Stay at Carranor” by William Blinn.

The theme of this year’s event, “Salute!”, is a “salute to mentors and masters who shaped us.” It pays tribute to legendary stage combat director Paddy Crean. Crean left England for the Stratford Festival in 1962 to serve as fight arranger for Peter Coe’s Macbeth. After his second season, he made Stratford his home and worked as the Festival’s fight director until 1983.

Sharron Matthews will host the cabaret-style show being held at the Festival Theatre at 8 p.m.

Expect the Extraordinary is a fundraiser for PAL Stratford.

PAL Stratford opened its first Perform Arts Lodge on Brunswick St. earlier this year with five affordable-housing units for members of the professional and performing arts community.

Other performers include Canadian tenor Roger Honeywell, actress Peggy Coffey from Alternative Theatre Works, vocalist Pam Gerrand, jazz instrumentalist Larry McQuarrie, fiddler Dan Stacey and Stratford Festival actors Robert King, Tyrone Savage, Luke Humphrey, Brad Hodder and Arden Couturier.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a mix and mingle and silent auction.

Tickets are $50 and $25 in advance ($55 and $30 at the door) and available through the Festival box office.
