A dream 15 years in the making was realized in Stratford Saturday morning.

The Performing Arts Lodge officially opened its doors at 101 Brunswick Street this past weekend with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The affordable housing is for people 55-years of age or older who made their living from the arts. Stratford Festival Executive Director Anita Gaffney praised all the people who made PAL a reality but singled out John Banks who has been pushing this idea for years.

Many dignitaries were on hand including past Festival Artistic Director Des McAnuff and current Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino. Sitting next to them was Christopher Plummer. The legendary actor is the honorary patron of the capital campaign.

He says people in the performing arts need a place like PAL.

Stratford musician Glen Dias is one of the first residents of the new Performing Arts Lodge.

He roasted the honorary patron when he addressed the crowd Saturday morning.

The Performing Arts Lodge is still fundraising to erase the remainder of its mortgage.

People can make a donation online.
