PAL Stratford launches $400,000 fundraising campaign
with Christopher Plummer as its Patron

September 24, 2012 … Today PAL Stratford enters the most exciting phase of its history as it embarks on a $400,000 fundraising campaign with Christopher Plummer as its Patron.

With a property purchased at 101 Brunswick Street and renovations well under way, the “Places, Please” Campaign has a goal of $400,000 to open the doors of Stratford’s first Performing Arts Lodge, a place where actors, arts workers and others can find affordable housing and support in their senior years.

In the theatre , “Places, please” is the stage manager’s signal that the action is about to begin on stage. And it is now that the action is set to begin at PAL Stratford.

Designed to provide five units of much needed affordable housing in the Stratford community, the undertaking at 101 Brunswick Street is 65% funded by the City of Stratford. PAL itself contributes 35% of the costs. The $400,000 sought in this campaign is the final funding needed to make the purchase and renovation of 101 Brunswick Street a debt-free project.

PAL Stratford is honoured that Christopher Plummer – who launched his career at the Stratford Festival in 1956 – has agreed to be Patron of this campaign.

In assuming the role, Mr. Plummer recalled lines from Hamlet instructing Polonius that the players be well looked after: “Will you see the players well bestowed? Let them be well used, for they are the abstracts and brief chronicles of the time.” Mr. Plummer added, “They’ve given us such joy – let us see that they’re cared for.”

PAL Stratford is a voluntary organization dedicated to the provision of affordable housing and other services to local members and associates of Canada’s professional and performing arts community and others who are in need of assistance by reason of low income, age or disability.

PAL Stratford was established as a non-profit organization in 2002 and in 2006 was registered as a Charitable Organization. It is one of six Chapters of the national PAL Canada Foundation. The others are located in Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.
